Do you know that Kyoto has the top consumption of bread than any other prefectures in Japan?
It may be surprising to hear this as Kyoto is well known as the best city in Japan to discover ancient Japan.
Well, Kyoto is also an amazing city for bread lovers that there are nearly 300 bakeries with delicious selections of breads.
Among all the bakeries in Kyoto, here we would like to introduce our favorite bakery located near Fuune, Maruki Bakery!
Maruki Bakery is a local bakery that first opened in 1942 and has been loved by the locals for nearly 80 years.
It has also been selected as one of the "Top 100 Bakery in Japan" by the Japan's biggest restaurant review site "Tabe-log" for three years since 2017.
Maruki is really a well-loved local bakery and is always crowded with locals that sometimes the popular breads gets sold out even before lunch time.
Maruki Bakery has over 20 selections of sandwiches and pastries, and when I go there, I always find myself buying too much than I was planning to.
The most popular bread at Maruki Bakery is the "Ham roll", but our staff's favorite is the second famous one,"Salad roll" which potato salad is sandwiched between the coppe pan (a bread alike hot dog buns) with slice of cucumbers, tomato, and lettuce.
"Ebi-katsu (Deep fried shrimp) roll" is our owner's favorite that he buys every time he goes to Maruki.
A slight sourness of lemon accent the flavor and goes well with the chewy shrimp.
Maruki Bakery have great selections of bread that makes you wanna come back and try some others!
The shop opens from early morning at 6:30, so it is well recommended to buy some breads as your breakfast.
It surely is gonna be a great way to start your day in Kyoto.
Going on a little picnic to the Kyoto Imperial Palace or Kamo river with bikes and good breads is another great way to spend you day in Kyoto.
